Talent Management and Succession Planning in a Transportation/Logistics Firm

Change Challenge
A transportation and logistics firm lacked a structured, consistent, and fair succession planning process.  Through a work culture and work process analysis, the firm determined that its "good old boy" network was blocking grooming and promoting women and minority talent. 
 
Customized Solution
We worked with the firm's executive team and human resource staff to design and implement a succession planning system.  We oversaw all phases of the initiative from project scoping, to leadership competency modeling, to profiling top level positions, to designing a customized 360-degree feedback tool, to crafting a communications plan, to delivering training for those involved in the new process.  We facilitated succession planning sessions with company executives to review performance and feedback results, identify talent gaps and development opportunities, and strategize around future staffing needs.  
 
Real Results
The firm's leadership was proud of its progress toward professionalizing its human resource processes.  Through the new succession planning system, the first woman in the company's history was promoted to the Vice Presidential ranks.  Feedback from middle managers indicated that they now saw a career path at the firm, and a road map to achieve career aspirations, resulting in reduced turnover of high potential candidates.
